A decompression valve releases some of the compression from the combustion chamber during the starting procedure, making the engine easier to turn over when pulling the recoil rope.

There are two different type decompression valves used in manufacturing and design.

1. Manual - The decompression valve is activated (opened) by the user before attempting to start the unit, once the engine starts it resets the valve to a closed state.

2. Automatic - The decompression valve is self activated any time the engine is not running, once the engine starts pulses from the engine crankcase cause the valve to close and remain closed until the engine is stopped again.

How do it works?

The Decompression feature reduces compression during the starting procedure, which means that up to 70 % less effort is needed to pull the starter cord, the ignition spark is stronger and a better air-fuel mixture is produced. The result is a fast and reliable start.
